Meanwhile to run v 2006/7 or older version from 2004 upwards in Windows Vista
follow the following instructions:

Windows Vista is designed to be a more secure operating system, so it will present you with security warnings you may not be used to. When you first install the program, and when you run the program, Vista will tell you “An unidentified program wants access to your computer.” If you’re installing, the file it mentions will be “setup.exe”; if you’re running the program, it will be “qbw32.exe”. You should allow these programs to run. If the error message “QuickBooks has encountered a problem and needs to close. We’re sorry for the inconvenience” appears when trying to run QuickBooks it is because you set up QuickBooks to run in the Program Files folder instead of the Documents folder. You can work around these errors messages in either of the following two ways:

  1. * Run QuickBooks as an Administrator.
  2. * Install QuickBooks in the Documents folder instead of the Program Files folder.

To run QuickBooks as an Administrator after installation:

  1. Right-click the QuickBooks icon on your desktop.
  2. Select Properties.
  3. Select the Compatibility tab.
  4. Click the box next to “Run this program as an administrator” to insert a checkmark.
  5. Click OK.
  6. Double-click the QuickBooks icon on your desktop.
  7. Enter the Administrator password if prompted.

To install QuickBooks in the Documents folder:

  1. Insert the QuickBooks Installation CD in your computer’s CD-ROM drive.
  2. The installation Wizard prompts you to install QuickBooks.
  3. Click Yes. Type in your installation key code, and click Next. Follow the on-screen instructions until you get to the QuickBooks Install Options screen.
  4. Click Change New Directory on the QuickBooks Install Options screen.
  5. Navigate to your Documents folder, and click OK.
  6. Follow the on-screen instruction to complete the installation.

New Features in v2005/6

New Features in v2004/3

IMPROVED FEATURES

Enhanced Price Levels

Create additional price levels for all the items you sell. In QuickBooks 2003 you can have a price level based on a percentage above or below your item price. In QuickBooks 2004, you can now set individual price levels for each item separately. These price levels are easily attached to the customer or can be easily accessed from the invoice screen.

Enhanced Email Integration

Email integration is enhanced this year with the addition of the ability to email statements and to easily customer the email templates for each form that you deliver electronically.

Reconciliation Enhancements

The reconciliation screen now allows you to customise the columns that display and to show only those uncleared transactions that are dated on or before the reconciliation date. There is also the ability to view prior reconciliations in a PDF format and then to easily locate discrepancies from what was reconciled. To assist in repairing reconciliations we have added the ability to reverse the last reconciliation.
